Finding the best kratom for depression and anxiety isn’t as simple as you would think. There are several problems, including the kratom dosage for depression you need, whether you should take daily kratom for depression, and also there’s the important question around which type of kratom you should use for each condition.
I’ve been on this journey myself, and so have a couple of other people I know. I want to put down here exactly what happened with my journey, so that you can understand the types of kratom that could work for your depression or anxiety, and also, very importantly, the types of kratom you should avoid.
The Positive Benefits Of Kratom
As many people are finding out, kratom has a range of positive benefits, but some of those benefits will depend on the strain you try.
Basically, there are three main types of kratom, green vein, red vein, and white vein. Each of these has some specific effects, while all of them have general effects.
As a rule, the higher the dose, the more overwhelmingly sedative it becomes. But white can be hugely uplifting until it starts to overwhelm you. So broadly:
- White kratom is uplifting, focusing and energizing, and at high doses euphoric
- Red kratom is focusing but brings calm, and pain relief, and at high doses is sedative
- Green kratom tends to be in the middle, having some traits from both, and not being as strong
However, now I’ve said that there are variations on this. But some of it will also depend on the person you are, and also the purity of the kratom.
So it’s not just a case of saying okay I need pain relief I’ll have red kratom, or I have anxiety so I need to relax and take this specific kratom to do it, or have depression so I need to be lifted. You need to experiment.
The Best Kratom For Depression
Let’s talk about using kratom for depression specifically. Depression is feeling low, not wanting to do anything, and feeling detached from the world. It can be totally overwhelming.
The best kratom for depression is one that will keep you relaxed but will lift your mood and give you focus.
For me, a good quality white kratom like White Borneo could really help. As long as you don’t go too crazy with the dose, then it will lift you, give you energy, improve your focus, but also keep you feeling at peace.
You could also try Green Malay. This has analgesic effects, but it also can help with boosting your energy and your mood. It’s a good middle ground, especially at the same sort of dose.
Or you could go for a red kratom. My favorite is Red Maeng Da. This is because it’s like a traditional red, it has significant sedative and analgesic effects, you will be relaxed, chilled out and your body will not suffer the way it has.
On the other side of that coin, this type of kratom can also improve your focus and give you energy as well, it’s a rare beast.
So to summarize on that, I feel from my experiences, that the best types of kratom for depression are those that have a stimulant but still not overwhelmingly energizing effect, these include:
- Green Malay
- Red Maeng Da
- White Borneo
The Best Kratom For Anxiety
But in terms of the best type of kratom for anxiety, that’s going to be slightly different to the best kratom for depression.
The reason for that is because anxiety is when your body is very jittery and you are not calm. Your heart will be racing, and if you don’t keep control, you can head straight into a full panic attack.
So a white kratom, or even a high dose of green kratom, could actually make your anxiety worse. It could be like chucking a massive caffeine hit into an anxiety attack.
For me, I found mellow red kratom strains to be best for anxiety. A favorite of mine is Red Bali. It’s, has a good range of effects, it keeps focus, it is relaxing, eases the pain, and keeps your energy levels up. It’s not overwhelming and is great for beginners.
Which means generally, reds, and some greens will be better if you are suffering from anxiety.
However, if you had to pin me down to a certain type of kratom that is best for anxiety, then I would go with trying Green Malay first.
It has a great balance in terms of keeping you relaxed, but also energizing you giving you focus, it’s also great for getting rid of social anxiety.
Kratom Dosage For Depression & Anxiety
Although the types of kratom you will need to deal with depression and anxiety might be different, when it comes to dosage, they will be very similar.
Now having said that, the dose you take will vary between person. So I can’t recommend a specific dose.
It will depend on who you are, the size of your body, your metabolism, your outlook, plus your physical and emotional health. On top of that, the quality of the kratom will make a difference, and that’s before you even consider the strain of kratom you are trying.
But generally, you don’t want to go too high when you are dozing kratom for depression or anxiety. If you go higher than a medium dose, then you will head into more extreme effects. If you’re trying to be lifted, you can go too far, and if you’re trying to relax, it can make you completely sedated.
So for me, I can only give guidelines that I found useful myself:
- Beginner dose of 2-3 grams
- A moderate dose of 4-5 grams
- A strong dose of 6-7 grams
- High dose of 8+ grams
As I say, it will depend on the kratom. Let’s assume you’ve got high-quality, pure kratom. For a red or white, you’ll want to keep the dose moderate, but with a green, you can still achieve the effects and get a good range from feeling relaxed but with energy, with a slightly higher dose in most cases.
You should always check the type of green kratom before trying it, to see what people are saying about it, but Green Malay is a great starting point.
Taking Daily Kratom For Depression
In terms of kratom dose generally, I would advise you don’t take it every day. I certainly wouldn’t take daily kratom for depression. The problem with doing that is that it can raise your tolerance levels.
So what happens is you take daily kratom for depression or anxiety, and you feel better. But as you start to build tolerance, the effects will lessen, meaning you have to take a higher dose.
Eventually, you will be on a very high dose, and that could lead to addiction because your body needs more to keep the positive effects.
My advice is to always have more days a week kratom free, then using kratom. If you really have to take some, take a good quality kratom that has the effect you need, but keep the dose as low as possible to just feel the smallest benefit you can get away with.
Buying Kratom For Depression Or Anxiety
So now I have told you what the best kratom for depression is, and also how to use kratom for depression and anxiety.
You also know that using daily kratom for depression isn’t a good idea, and I’ve given you the best idea possible around the kratom dosage for depression, as well as for anxiety.
The other consideration, which I’ve alluded to in this post is that you need good quality kratom.
The problem with a lot of kratom sellers is that they buy from importers, rather than direct.
Which means they have no idea of the quality, or where they are buying from. They don’t know the sources, they don’t know if it’s been cut with other herbs during its processing, they literally have no idea.
So if you want to use the best kratom for depression, there are only a handful of trusted kratom vendors out there that really fit the bill.
And as of said, depending on whether you have depression or anxiety, the best kratom will be different. You’re looking for Red Maeng Da, Green Malay, Red Bali, White Borneo and some Indo strains as a starting point.
A brilliant way to do this is to choose a retailer who sells high-quality kratom in variety packs. A variety pack is a good starting point to experiment with using kratom for depression.
It’s a cheap entry point, and you can then make a much better decision on the kratom that will work for you.
Some retailers even sell kratom capsules in variety packs. With depression and anxiety, sometimes you might need to take them as it happens, especially anxiety.
So having them in capsules, literally like a pack of pills, is fantastic, because you can just take the number you need to reach the dose you know will work to lower your anxiety or boost your mood if you’re feeling depressed.
